As the New Orleans Saints toil through a disappointing season in the NFL‘s worst division, there are reports of a serious rift between head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan.

Come on. You would probably hate Rob Ryan too. Just look at that guy.

Another season, another set of preseason reports about an improved Saints’ defense, and another year where the Saints are awful on that side of the ball. At some point the gig is going to be up for Rob Ryan as defensive coordinator, and based on reports of a conflict between him and head coach Sean Payton, that day might be coming soon.

Jason La Canfora reports that things are ugly in the New Orleans locker room between head coach and defensive coordinator:

"The relationship between Saints head coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has been rapidly deteriorating this season, with it privately acknowledged within the team’s headquarters that the men strongly dislike each other and a change is inevitable this offseason."

This was probably only a matter of time. And while the Saints’ offense has been disappointing compared to its usual lofty standards, a leaky defense is still at the top of the list of problems in New Orleans.

The Saints are allowing 377 yards and 26 points per game.
