The winner for this year’s Broyles Award could be determined by the outcome of the SEC Championship Game as Lane Kiffin’s offense will square off against Dave Steckel’s defense as Alabama meets Missouri from Atlanta.

Kiffin is in the first year at Alabama as the school’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and Steckel is in his 14th season at Missouri where he is the defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and associate head coach.

In total there were five finalists named for the award that will be presented on Dec. 9

Lane Kiffin Alabama offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach

Dave Steckel Missouri defensive coordinator, linebackers and associate head coach

Tom HermanOhio State offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach

Scott Frost Oregon offensive coordinator  and quarterbacks coach

Doug Meacham – TCU co-offensive coordinator and inside receivers coach

Kiffin has made quarterback Blake Sims a quality starter for the nation’s No. 1 team and wide receiver Amari Cooper has shattered program records in his offense.

Steckel developed Shane Ray and Markus Golden into arguably the best pass rushing duo in the SEC for the Eastern division champs.

Herman lost Braxton Miller 11 days before the season started and turned J.T. Barrett into a record-breaking quarterback and a Heisman candidate.

Frost helped develop Marcus Mariota into the potential Heisman winner and No. 1 pick in the NFL draft for one of the top three teams in the country.

Meacham has radically transformed the TCU offense and has turned Trevone Boykin into a Heisman candidate who has smashed program records in this high-flying offense for a potential College Football Playoff participant.

Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi took home the Broyles Award last year.
