Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze has been one of the names that people have speculated could be in line to take over the Florida Gators, and now it seems that could be a distinct possibility.
According to a report from Steven Godfrey over at SB Nation, Freeze is currently mulling over an offer from the Gators that could be in the range of $4.2 to $4.3 million per season.
Now in addition to this offer from Florida, Ole Miss is set to try and fight off their SEC brethren for the services of their current head coach.
"Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze is considering an offer to coach at the University of Florida for a base salary in the range of $4.2 to $4.3 million annually, according to multiple sources.Additional sources confirm the Rebels are attempting to compete with the Gators’ offer, pushing Freeze’s salary to somewhere near the $4 million range to take compensation out of the question in a potential decision by Freeze between the two schools."
When it was announced that Will Muschamp would indeed not be returning to Gainesville a few weeks ago, Freeze’s name was one of the first that was brought up, and with pretty good reason.
Currently in the third year of his four-year deal with Ole Miss, Freeze has resurrected the Rebels through amazing recruiting, and even had people considering them as legitimate national title contenders for a good potion of this season. Freeze even led the Rebels to a win over Alabama this season, one of the biggest wins in Ole Miss history and still the only loss that Alabama has suffered this season.
