New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has drawn some interest from the Florida Gators in regards to their vacant head coaching position, the Boston Herald is reporting on Monday.

According to the report, McDaniels is being vetted  by Florida officials, and they do indeed see him as a viable candidate to take over the program.

"The University of Florida is vetting McDaniels and views him as a viable candidate for its vacant head coaching position, according to Footballscoop.com, which has a respected reputation when reporting news about college coaching searches."

Since it was announced a few weeks ago that Will Muschamp would not be coming back, some prominent names have been mentioned as a replacement, however McDaniels really was not one of them. So this is one of the first twists in the process to find the next head coach of the Gators.

As far as collegiate experience, McDaniels doesn’t have much, other than being a graduate assistant on the staff of Nick Saban at Michigan State from 1999-2000. However, he does have extensive NFL experience, which has been rumored to be a qualification of athletic director Jeremy Foley.

McDaniels has been on the Patriots staff since the 2011 season. Prior to that, he was the Rams offensive coordinator after he spent two seasons as the Broncos head coach.
