Trevor Knight will miss his third straight game for Oklahoma since suffering a neck injury that was diagnosed as transient quadripilegia that is caused by a hyperextension of the neck and results in numbness, tingling and loss of sensation throughout the body.
“He will not be cleared,” Stoops said Monday, via ESPN. “So we’ll proceed as we have the last couple of games at quarterback.”
He was injured late in the team’s loss to Baylor.
Cody Thomas has started the last two games, both wins, and will start again on Sunday in Bedlam Series game against in-state rival Oklahoma State with converted tight end Blake Bell serving as the backup to Thomas. Bell began his career as a quarterback before converting to tight end this year.
Thomas has completed 13-of-33 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions while running for 124 yards and a touchdown to offset the modest production in the passing game.
The team has leaned on freshman running back Samaje Perine with Knight out and he’s certainly been up to the task with 213 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries against Texas Tech and rushed for an FBS single-game record 427 yards with five touchdowns on 34 carries against Kansas in the team’s last game.
