Could Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins part ways this coming NFL offseason?
The Washington Redskins and Robert Griffin III have had a very up-and-down past couple of seasons, and things came to a very abrupt benching this past week against the Indianapolis Colts. Griffin and head coach Jay Gruden have exchanged plenty of words over the past week or two, and things simply don’t look good for the two sides moving forward.

According to a report from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Redskins are likely to part ways with Griffin. The report mentions that Griffin could be gone as soon as this coming NFL offseason.
"Multiple sources within Washington’s organization believe it is a forgone conclusion former starting quarterback Robert Griffin III will not back be back with the team in 2015, with the disconnect between him and the team’s decision-makers growing so great, and the desire to retain him so scant, that an offseason divorce is inevitable."
Things simply have gone so far downhill that the Redskins don’t have much of a choice other than to get rid of him this offseason. They certainly cannot depend on him to turn things around after two years of injury issues and inconsistency, and they can’t afford to continue waiting on him in hopes that he does turn things around. Getting rid of him and acquiring a third-round pick in a trade would be an acceptable price tag.
There are plenty of teams out there that could use a quarterback, and the Redskins could likely get at least a third-round pick from one of them. T
eams like the Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oakland Raiders, and a few other teams are potential destinations to watch.
No matter what ends up happening the rest of the season, things don’t look good for Griffin to return to Washington next season. He has said way too much and has done too little, while the coaching staff is obviously getting sick of dealing with him. Colt McCoy played well in his start against the Indianapolis Colts this week, which makes Griffin returning to the starting lineup look less likely.
All of that being said, it is going to be a very intriguing offseason if Griffin does indeed go on the trade market. There is a good chance that even if they can’t find a trade partner that they would simply release him. Either way, the future isn’t looking very bright for Griffin in Washington moving forward after this disastrous season.
