Oregon Ducks offensive coordinator Scott Frost is the betting favorite early on to go take over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, according to the latest list that was released by Bovada.
When the Huskers decided on Sunday that the services of Bo Pelini were no longer needed despite consistently winning nine games, the former Cornhuskers quarterback was one of the first names that popped up in the rumor mill.
Frost is notable in Nebraska lore, because he was the last quarterback to lead the Huskers to something that fans want the most, and that’s a national championship. Under the direction of head coach Tom Osborne, Frost led Nebraska to the 1997 national title with his dynamic skills running and passing the ball.
He played in the NFL for a few seasons, on the defensive side of the ball with his skills under center not translating to the NFL level at the time, before he began his collegiate coaching career. Frost was promoted to Oregon offensive coordinator before the 2013 season when Chip Kelly moved on to the NFL and Mark Helfrich was promoted to head coach.
Here is the list of betting favorites with the search just beginning; a list which includes a few other notable names.
- Scott Frost- 5/2
- Greg Schiano- 15/4
- Tom Herman- 4/1
- Pat Narduzzi- 9/2
- Jim McElwain- 5/1
- Jerry Kill- 13/2
- Matt Wells- 7/1
