The Bakerfield Condors of the ECHL held the Teddy Bear Toss promotion Saturday and saw 7,358 bears hit the ice.

The Teddy Bear Toss is one of the coolest traditions in hockey.

Often seen at the minor league level, the promotion calls for fans to throw teddy bears on the ice after the home team scores its first goal. The bears are then picked up by the team and donated to local charities/non profit-organizations and given to children as Christmas gifts.

The Bakerfield Condors of the ECHL were the first  to do the promotion this year, leading to 7,358 teddy bears being thrown out to the ice on Saturday just 98 seconds into the team’s game against the Utah Grizzlies.

That is pretty awesome to watch. We’ve all seen hats thrown on the ice after hat tricks before. But to see that many bears fly down on the ice is a whole other level of cool.

According to Yahoo Sports, the Condors have been running this promotion for 16 years and have seen a whopping 95,567 bears hit the ice during that span.

Incredibly enough, the Condors are unlikely to be the kings of the Teddy Bear Toss for much longer. The Calgary Hitmen are running the promo on Dec. 7. They hold the record of 26,919 bears in one game (set in 2007) and had more than 25,000 last year.
