The Michigan Wolverines are expected to fire Brady Hoke on Tuesday, and the list of potential head coaching candidates includes Greg Schiano.

When the Michigan Wolverines hire their next head coach, it very well could be former Rutgers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano. He’s hardly at the top of anyones list but Schiano’s name has popped up on some coaching lists in the recent past with Michigan being one of the latest teams to possibly think about giving him a look.

After all, Schiano was in the discussion — however briefly — to be the Cleveland Browns head coach this past winter. That was a case of Cleveland not knowing where they were going with their hire, and that’s not the best reputation to have as a head coaching candidate and how much you’re valued.

According to Dan Murphy from ESPN, among the head coaching candidates the Wolverines could target to replace Brady Hoke is none other than Greg Schiano.

Jim Harbaugh may very much be in play for Michigan, although they can’t really satisfy the 49ers demands for a trade in order to land Harbaugh. Les Miles could hop over from LSU, but the Tigers will likely try to block that by giving him a raise and more years on his contract. Butch Davis is an option, as Tennessee isn’t going anywhere anytime soon and rebuilding the program at Michigan is a pretty decent legacy to have, especially with the Big Ten getting better again.

Schiano would be the most interesting choice though, as he was run out of Tampa Bay and the NFL for being a macho bafoon hopped upon testosterone and thinking he was Bill Belichick. That’s something that might work in college though, as you can boss around 18 year old kids a lot better than you can 28-year old men.

Of course there are other names to consider as well, but Michigan will be one of the hottest coaching jobs on the market and whoever gets it will be under a lot of pressure.
