Brandon Sutter and the Pittsburgh Penguins allow rookie Scott Wilson to make his solo debut

MY FAVORITE PART OF HOCKEY.

More from NHL

Scott Wilson, who was selected in the seventh round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, was probably pretty excited to make his NHL debut with the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday night.

So excited, in fact, that he didn’t seem to notice the team letting him head out on the ice first — and then hanging back to watch him coast around solo.

This isn’t exactly out of the ordinary; we’ve seen teams do this to rookies for years. It still never gets any less funny, though — and Wilson gets way more into it than some I’ve seen in the past. He’s right on par Steven Stamkos, who did a little dance when the team let him coast out on his own in HIS NHL debut.

Still doesn’t beat that time Marc-Andre Fleury face-planted on the ice in his playoff debut, but I guess it’s time to create some new fun memories.

Side note:

Flat Stanley

Brandon Sutter looks way more pleased about the prank than any kindhearted human ever should, which makes me strongly suspect there’s a dark streak somewhere in the Sutter dynasty. Maybe Brandon just really appreciates rookies, because they actually respect him as a person. I dunno.
