Bill Parcells believes that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is playing with more urgency as his NFL career continues to wind down.

Tony Romo has been one of the most drama filled quarterbacks that the NFL has seen in quite some time, and possibly the history of the game. He has yet to take the Dallas Cowboys to a championship, and simply doesn’t have much faith from the fan base that he will anytime in the near future.

That being said, he has played much better football for the most part this year and has his team very much alive in the playoff picture.

Bill Parcells was one of the first people who saw the talent in Romo, and was actually in his first season as the Cowboys head coach when the team signed Romo as an undrafted free agent.

He was talking about Romo and his future a bit, and mentioned that he sees  Romo playing with more urgency as the end of his career continues to draw closer.

"“I get a sense of urgency on his part. I’m not saying time is running out. But you know he’s gotten nicked up here and there, and that can play on your mind about what the future holds.”"

Romo responded to his former coach’s comments after being told about them.

"“He’s right. I understand how fast your career goes. When you have opportunities, it’s time to push it. We haven’t accomplished anything. It’s time to put our heads down. When you’re young, you feel like you have time. We had some success, but we ultimately didn’t move on. You think you’ll have multiple opportunities. But injuries happen.Players go to other teams. That sense of urgency has always been there. But as you get older, you just recognize when your team has some ability compared to other years, you just can’t squander it. You’ve got to do everything you can to have a chance to get deep in the playoffs.”"

Through his first 11 games this season with the Cowboys, Romo has thrown for 2,718 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Those numbers aren’t bad at all, and the improved rushing game with DeMarco Murray leading the way has been a major help.

At 34 years of age, there is no question that Romo is playing in the final stage of his career. He has been huge for the Cowboys throughout his career, but needs to take them to a Super Bowl at some point to finalize his legacy. There is no question that he has the talent and the team to do that, but he has to get everything out of his head and simply accomplish that goal.

All of that being said, it will be intriguing to see whether or not he can get the job done this year. It’s going to be a difficult road, but they are in good positioning and have the opportunity to make a run down the stretch of the season.
