According to the Bears official Twitter account, the team has signed veteran kicker Jay Feely and waived receiver Chris Williams to make room for him on the roster. The move comes as previous kicker Robbie Gould was announced to be sitting out of practice on Tuesday with a sore quad. He was unable to practice on Wednesday as the Bears are preparing to face the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday Night Football. His status on the injury report released on Wednesday is listed as doubtful.

Gould has attempted 12 field goals this season and made nine of those for a 75 percent rate.

Jay Feely was working out with the Denver Broncos last week as they looked to replace struggling starting kicker Brandon McManus. However, the Broncos signed Connor Barth, whom they also worked out.

Feely last played in 2013 for the Arizona Cardinals. He played 16 games that season and made 30 of 36 field goals attempted. He has been in the league since 2001 and has made 329 of 398 field goals for 82.7 percent.

The Bears are 5-7, third in the NFC North, and behind three other teams for a playoff spot, including the Cowboys. They host 8-4 Dallas on Thursday, and the Cowboys are currently behind the Detroit Lions for a playoff spot, as well as a game behind NFC East leaders the Philadelphia Eagles. The Bears cannot afford to lose another game if they want to remain in any kind of contention and the Cowboys likely view this game as a must-win as well.
