The Nebraska Cornhuskers are in serious talks with Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Bret Bielema, according to a report from FootballScoop.com.
Nebraska fired Bo Pelini this past weekend, which shocked a lot of people at the time, given Pelini’s ability to win at least nine games a season. However, when thought about, the move made sense if you assumed that the Huskers had their sights set on a particular high-profile candidate.
Well, it appears that Bielema is that candidate.
"Per sources, Nebraska is targeting Arkansas head coach Bret Bielema and is in serious talks with him. Eichorst and Bielema has an extensive relationship from their time at Wisconsin (Eichorst served as Wisconsin’s second-in-command from 2006-11) and from what we hear this got serious quick."
Bielema made a name for himself with those amazing Wisconsin teams, which is a good reason why he was handed the reins at Arkansas prior to last season. As we saw at the end of this past regular season, it appears that Bielema has the program trending upward in the SEC.
However, if this report is indeed accurate, then Arkansas may be looking for someone else to help bring the program back to prominence in the south.
That’s because Bret might be taking a trip back up north.
