Who are the top five receivers in the NFL?

With the NFL transforming into more of a predominant passing league the last couple of years and organizations leaning more dependently on Pro Bowl level quarterbacks and wide receivers, teams have put more of an emphasis on having impactful, skilled, and talented receivers that can produce at a high and consistent rate. Well, 2014 hasn’t been any different in that regard because the play of the wideouts in the NFL this season have been top-notch.

So top-notch that it inspired me to come up with a list of the top-five wide receivers during this NFL season thru Week 13. While I can only choose five wideouts, there have been other receivers that could have made a case to crack my list but are still having strong years nonetheless. Surprisingly, the best receiver in the game in Calvin Johnson did not make the cut mainly because he has been injured the majority of the season and his usual production just isn’t there.

Here’s my Honorable Mention:

Philadelphia Eagles Jeremy Maclin: 71 receptions, 1,088 receiving yards, 9 TD catches, 15.3 yards per catch

Green Bay Packers Randall Cobb: 65 receptions, 922 receiving yards, 10 TD catches, 14.2 yards per catch

San Francisco 49ers Anquan Boldin: 68 receptions, 863 receiving yards, 4 TD catches, 12.4 yards per catch

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Mike Evans: 53 receptions, 890 receiving yards, 8 TD catches, 16.8 yards per catch

Detroit Lions Golden Tate: 80 receptions, 1,136 receiving yards, 3 TD catches, 14.2 yards per catch

Baltimore Ravens Steve Smith: 54 receptions, 819 receiving yards, 5 TD catches, 15.2 yards per catch (The Old Man is still schooling defensive backs.)

Carolina Panthers Kelvin Benjamin: 57 receptions, 824 receiving yards, 8 TD catches, 14.5 yards per catch

Indianapolis Colts T.Y. Hilton: 68 receptions, 1,145 receiving yards, 5 TD catches, 16.5 yards per catch
