The San Francisco 49ers travel to play the Oakland Raiders this weekend for the first time in a while, so the Raiders are escalating security.

The last time the two teams from the Bay Area met was in 2011 for an exhibition game. On that night two people were shot while two others suffered severe injuries, there was also a number of fights that were probably influenced by alcohol inside and outside of the stadium.

This caused the teams to put a hold on their annual exhibition meeting. Of course, that doesn’t mean they would never meet again.

To stop another debacle like that, the Oakland Raiders organization is going to beef up security for the week 14 matchup between the two, hoping they are more prepared for what may happen.

"“The Raiders, Oakland Police Department, Alameda County Sheriff, and O.co Coliseum Management have worked together to create an increased law enforcement and security presence at Sunday’s game,” the team said in a statement, via Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com.“This includes a substantial increase in uniformed law enforcement officers, additional undercover officers, and increased private security staff.  Public safety is a top priority for the Raiders, O.co Coliseum, and local law enforcement and all are working diligently to ensure that fans enjoy a safe and secure environment.”"

The Raiders have not beaten the 49ers since 2000 but the series is still tied 6-6. The team also has not had a winning season since 2002 so fans are growing impatient.
