Bortuzzo’s suspension will be without pay.
Because of the suspension for his “late, violent hit” to a “defenseless” Jagr, Bortuzzo must forfeit $6,451.62 based on his average annual salary.
After the hit, Jagr remained on the ice for several minutes before he was ultimately taken to the dressing room.
According to a video from the NHL that explained Robert Bortuzzo’s suspension, the head contact that was made was a big reason for the two-game suspension.
“What elevates this hit to merit supplemental discipline is its extreme lateness, its predatory nature and the significant head contact that results from the way it is delivered,” Patrick Burke said in the video.

Bortuzzo was not penalized for the hit on the ice, but the NHL’s review determined it merited further punishment.
Pittsburgh’s next two games are against the Vancouver Canucks and Ottawa Senators, with Bortuzzo being eligible to return on Monday, Dec. 8 when the Penguins travel for a meeting with the New York Rangers.
