Power Outage Disrupts Detroit Red Wings Practice
By Cory Buck
The Detroit Red Wings were unable to practice in advance of their home tilt versus the Florida Panthers thanks to a power outage in downtown Detroit.
You’ll have to forgive the Detroit Red Wings if they came out a little rusty on Tuesday night against the Florida Panthers. Their routine was thrown off by a power outage that rendered Joe Louis Arena a dark hole for the afternoon leading up to the game. Power was restored to the arena in plenty of time for the game, but an early deficit doomed the Wings at home.

“It wasn’t a big deal. We rode a bike, or I went outside for a run. It’s not a big deal,” said Detroit winger Johan Franzen, per the Michigan Free Press.
Coach Mike Babcock was equally unready to make excuses.
“We had a backup thing to turn our TVs on so we could have our meetings anyway,” Babcock said. “Then they were just playing a little soccer. You know, we feel with our young group it’s important to get our team ready to go, and we think skating is part of that. But we don’t have to skate as long as we get together. So that was important, that we got together this morning.”
The Panthers led 4-1 before the Red Wings rallied late and brought the score to 4-3. Detroit couldn’t find the equalizer though and fell by that same score.
