Florida State Seminoles vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

One more win and the Florida State Seminoles might play their way right out of the College Football Playoffs.

All kidding aside, Saturday’s ACC Championship against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets is huge for the unbeaten Seminoles (12-0), who were ranked fourth in this week’s edition of the CFP committee’s rankings.

That’s despite 28 consecutive wins and being the lone unbeaten team in the nation.

Georgia Tech (10-2) has won five straight since back-to-back losses to Duke and North Carolina in October.

Florida State is in its fifth ACC title game and third in a row. The Yellow Jackets are in their fourth conference title game and first since 2012, when they lost to the Seminoles 21-15.

Keys to Victory

Florida State is unbeaten, but has committed the most turnovers in the ACC with 27. Georgia Tech’s defense leads the ACC with 27 takeaways. Reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston—who has dealt with a hearing to determine whether or not he violated FSU’s student conduct code—has thrown 17 picks this year, the most in the conference.

Quarterback Justin Thomas of Georgia Tech has thrown for 1,460 yards and run for another 861 while triggering the Yellow Jackets’ triple-option attack. Tech has the best third-down conversion rate in the nation and FSU’s defense will have to maintain gap integrity against an attack they haven’t seen since in more than two years—the last time the teams met in Charlotte.

Betting Odds

Point Spread: Florida State minus-4½

Moneyline: Florida State minus-200, Georgia Tech plus-176

O/U: 60½

Prediction

By the time Saturday rolls around, the Seminoles will have gone 743 days since their last loss, when they lost to Florida 37-26 on Nov. 24, 2012. Last year, entering the ACC Championship, Florida State had not trailed in the second half all season and had just one win by less than 27 points. This year, the Seminoles have six wins by single digits—including the last three straight. But Jimbo Fisher’s bunch just keeps figuring out how to get it done.

Final Score: Florida State 28, Georgia Tech 27
