Le’Veon Bell Could Enter Drug Program Over Marijuana Use

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell agreed on Wednesday to enter a program for first-time offenders and it could mean a suspension from the NFL is on the way.

Le’Veon Bell’s entrance in the first-time offender program stems from a marijuana possession and DUI charge, according to a story in Trib Total Media.

He now faces a 15-month probation, a drug and alcohol evaluation, two six hour highway safety classes, participation in DUI group therapy and payment of all court costs. His driver’s license will also be suspended for 60 days according to the  policy of the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program (ARD) for nonviolent, first-time offenders. If he successfully completes the program, his criminal record would be wiped clean.

"“I am glad to put (the incident) behind me, but I am not worried about that now,” Bell said after practice Wednesday."

Le’veon Bell is the third leading rusher in the league and fortunately for the Steelers, the likelihood of a two game suspension according to the NFL’s substance abuse police, would not fall until next season. A spokesman for the league said that the matter will be reviewed in accordance with the policy.

Bell’s lawyer, Robert Del Greco, said that the ARD offer was standard in first-time offender cases and is attractive because it allows the offender to wipe their record clean and avoid trial.

Bell’s ARD hearing will be February 6th, whereupon his lawyer is expected to enter him in the program.
