The Horned Frogs host Iowa State (2-9) Saturday to close out their regular season in a game that can’t help them, but can hurt them badly in advance of Sunday’s final CFP rankings and playoff selections.
Petty left last week’s 48-46 win over Texas Tech with a concussion and was just cleared to play on Friday.
On the season, Petty has completed 59.3 percent of his throws for 2,893 yards and 25 touchdowns, with five interceptions. He also has four touchdowns on the ground.
Petty missed two games earlier this season with a back injury.
In order to get into the top 4, Baylor needs to beat Kansas State and get some help. All five of the teams ahead of them play lower ranked teams this week.
No. 1 Alabama faces No. 16 Missouri in the SEC championship game, No. 2 Oregon plays No. 7 Arizona Friday in the Pac-12 title game, No. 4 Florida State meets No. 11 Georgia Tech for the ACC championship and No. 5 Ohio State gets No. 13 Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game.
The Big 12, with only 10 members, does not play a conference championship game. NCAA rules require a conference to have at least 12 teams to do so.
