Buffalo Sabres fans plead for a Jhonas Enroth trade so they stop winning games
Buffalo, man.

Most hockey fans love a feel-good season storyline. Even though they keep curb-stomping my Arizona Coyotes, for example, I’m really happy for the Calgary Flames — and although I’d much rather have seen a Los Angeles–Boston Bruins Stanley Cup Final this past spring, I cheered along with the rest of the NHL for Martin St. Louis and his new Rangers.
Apparently the Connor McDavid sweepstakes mean more than those warm, fuzzy feelings a win brings, though — and Buffalo Sabres fans are not happy with the way things have been looking lately.
The Sabres are no Calgary, but they’ve definitely been one of the more pleasant surprises on the season. Both Jhonas Enroth and and Michal Neuvirth are doing surprisingly well in net (well, considering); as a result, the team has been flung out of their cellar-dwelling last place spot in the league standings.
You would think Buffalo fans would celebrate the team’s rebuild being somewhat ahead of schedule; although Enroth and Neuvirth aren’t like to carry the team long-term, some pretty hearty wins over strong franchises around the league suggest that the Sabres are a team to look out for.
Nope.
On a forum posted to WGR 550 SportsRadio’s website, fans are actually upset — not because the team is in the bottom five teams in the league, but because they aren’t the uncontested thirtieth place franchise.
Some notable fan quotes include such gems as these:
"“At this point the length of this season is the only thing saving this team from winning too many games to put themselves out of the running.”"
and
"“Strike while the iron is hot, and trade Enroth for one of those talented Oiler forwards. This has 3 potential benefits to the Sabres. 1. Edmonton gets a good goalie, who can be great at times. This stops the bleeding, gets them some wins and out of the basement. 2. By trading away the game stealing Enroth, the tank will be back on track for the once in a lifetime talent of McDavid/Eichel.”"
Buffalo, I hate to say it — but this is why you can’t have nice things.
