Olympic mega-medalist Michael Phelps plans to return to competition after his six-month suspension is over in March, according to his coach.

According to his coach, 18-time Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps will be back in the pool competing once his six-month suspension is over early next year.

According to The Associated Press, coach Bob Bowman says there are many options available for Phelps once his eligibility is restores.

"“We’re looking at a lot of different options for competition,” Bowman said. “We’re just taking it one day at a time. He’s back in training and we’re seeing how things go. We’ll look at things in March and really go from there.”"

Phelps was suspended by USA Swimming Oct. 6 after he was arrested for drunken-driving, his second such arrest.

He completed a six-week inpatient treatment program, but still is scheduled to be in court Dec. 19 in Baltimore to face the charges.

His first arrest for DUI was in 2004.

Phelps could return at the Mesa Grand Prix April 15-18, which was also the meet he competed in first when he emerged from retirement earlier this year.

The 29-year-old is also barred from competing at the 2015 FINA World Championships to be held July 24-Aug. 9 in Kazan, Russia, but will be eligible to compete and plans to take part in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
