Fake Handshake Basket May Have Cost Gamblers A Ton Of Money
By Josh Hill
The infamous fake handshake to score a basket move has gone viral, but the gambling ramifications of the basket scored have some people calling out the whole incident as fishy.
We have all seen the Portland-Portland State play that featured a player faking a handshake to steal the basketball and score a meaningless bucket with his team down 14 points. On the surface, this looked like nothing more than a douche move that lowered the margin of victory from 14 points to just 12 points.

As pointed out since it has happened, the basket score was an interesting play but it may have been more sinister than it appeared on the surface.
If you somehow missed the play, here it is:
It may seem fishy to some that the basket was scored, as anyone who bets on sports knows that two points could be the difference between winning a bet and losing it. That’s the case with this game and that now infamous basket.
"Weird part about this story: The line for many was PSU -12.5 (it was -9.5 on some books). So that basket (which cut the lead from 83-69 to 83-71) had HUGE betting implications. I’m not saying this looks fishy, but yeah, maybe grab your tinfoil hat."
So while it was a funny play and kind of a douche move on the part of the player who stole the ball, it appears that it may have been more sinister than we all though.
Then again, this player may have simply thought that if he was going to lose the game he doesn’t have to lose the war. It’s not a victory that is going to show up in the box score, but beating the gambling addicts who were betting on a game between Portland and Portland State
