All the No. 2  Oregon Ducks had to do to ensure that they have a place in the College Football Playoff on Friday night was to beat the team that’s defeated them their last two outings. Well, Marcus Mariota and the Ducks were more than successful in doing that as they torched their way to a 51-13 victory over the Wildcats.

In addition to claiming the Pac-12 Championship for the 2014 season, Mariota may have also wrapped up the Heisman Trophy for himself as he was virtually unstoppable in this one, throwing for 313 yards and two scores, while rushing for 33 yards and three more touchdowns.

Surprisingly, things got off to a slow start in this one, with Oregon leading 6-0 after the first quarter after the offense was unsuccessful a couple times in the red zone.

But beginning in the second quarter, the high-powered Ducks turned it on and they never turned it off from there.

Oregon would end up going into the half with a 23-0  lead after two Mariota rushing scores and another field goal.

The third quarter was not much more fun for the South division champion Wildcats. Less than five minutes into the second half, Mariota would start showing off the arm, tossing this scoring strike to Devon Allen to push the score to 30-0 at that point.

From there it was pretty clear that Oregon was racing their way to a spot in the College Football Playoff, which they were indeed successful at.

The only scores the Wildcats got in this one were a 69-yard touchdown catch from Cayleb Jones in the third quarter and then one final one at the end of the game.

This game, of course, made this man, Rich Rodriguez, very much not happy.

So, congratulations are in order to the Oregon Ducks for being the first team in history to clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff.
