Washington Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy was knocked out of Sunday’s game against the St. Louis Rams with a neck injury, replaced by Robert Griffin III.
Robert Griffin III got off the Washington Redskins’ bench after all.
Late in the Redskins’ 24-0 loss to the St. Louis Rams, Griffin came in to replace starting quarterback Colt McCoy.
There was some confusion about McCoy’s status initially, as ESPN’s John Clayton reported that McCoy had been benched.
However, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora said McCoy left because of an injury:
The Redskins official Twitter account cleared up the confusion. It was an injury:
In any event, it was as bad a performance at home as the Redskins have had. Held to just 206 yards of total offense, Washington turned the ball over twice and allowed seven sacks while falling to 3-10.

McCoy was 20-for-32 for 199 yards and two interceptions and took six sacks before he was knocked out.
Griffin was 3-for-4 for 33 yards and took a sack during his brief relief effort.
More telling for Washington is this statistic: McCoy was their leading rusher with 11 yards on two carries.
The Rams, meanwhile, posted back-to-back shutouts for the first time since blanking the Chicago Cardinals and Chicago Bears in consecutive games in 1945, when they were the Cleveland Rams, according to pro-football-reference.com.
St. Louis shut out the Oakland Raiders 52-0 last week. There is no truth to rumors the Rams will play SMU next week.
