The Florida State Seminoles held off the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Saturday for their third straight ACC championship. Now the wait for the committee begins.

Jameis Winston threw for 309 yards and three touchdowns and the Florida State Seminoles hung on for a 37-35 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Saturday night at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., for the ACC championship.

The ‘Noles (13-0) won their 29th straight game and also got 177 yards rushing from Dalvin Cook, who scored a touchdown as well and was named the game’s MVP. Cook added 43 yards on five receptions.

Florida State took a nine-point lead with 4:28 to go when Roberto Aguayo kicked his third field goal of the second half.

Georgia Tech (10-3) got the ball back and drove 97 yards in six plays, scoring on a 25-yard pass from Justin Thomas to Darren Waller with 1:47 to go.

Florida State recovered the onside kick, however, and was able to run the clock out, sealing it when Cook picked up 10 yards on a third-and-7.

The Seminoles struggled early with Georgia Tech’s triple-option attack, allowing three touchdowns and more than 200 yards on the ground in the first quarter and a half.

Florida State jumped into the halftime lead, however, when Winston and Rashad Greene hooked up on touchdown passes of 44 and nine yards.

The second of the two scores came with 30 seconds left in the first half and gave Florida State its first lead of the game.

Synjyn Days tied the game midway through the third quarter with the third of his 1-yard touchdown runs before the Seminoles were finally able to slow down the rushing attack of the Yellow Jackets and get three Aguayo field goals from 33, 32 and 28 yards to take a 37-28 lead.

Winston was 21-for-30 on the night. Georgia Tech’s Thomas was 8-for-14 for 134 yards passing, with a touchdown and an interception, and also ran 11 times for 104 yards.

Florida State was fourth in the College Football Playoff rankings coming into the game and none of the top six teams lost, leaving the selection committee with some tough choices to make before Sunday’s announcement of the first four teams to head into the playoff bracket.
