The College Football Playoffs are going to be set in stone today, and ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit has a surprising pick to round out what he hopes will be the final Top 4.

When the weekend began there was a lot of talk about whether or not TCU, Baylor or Ohio State deserved the final spot in the College Football Playoffs. It’s a debate that has a ton of validity but will be decided upon once and for all this afternoon.

The main knock against Ohio State was that they were on their third string quarterback and that meant they weren’t a good team anymore. Their shellacking of Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship game confirmed this was a bogus argument and makes the decision on whether to put them in the playoffs even harder.

ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit is among those pulling for Ohio State to get into the playoffs, as he has them at No. 4 in his final College Football Playoff ranking.

This very well could be the way things go for Ohio State, as they dominated a pretty talented Wisconsin team in a way no one saw coming. The whole third string quarterback debate seems to have been rendered irrelevant by the blowout win in the Big Ten title game, as the Buckeyes established themselves as true contenders on Saturday night.

Will the Selection Committee see it the same way though? While Herbstreit is pretty well informed, his vote doesn’t really count as an end all-be all. There will be some controversey no matter what with the College Football playoff selection, but Ohio State more than proved their case to at least be martyrs if they are kept out of the final Top 4.
