LeBron James and players throughout sports are protesting police brutality and this Monday could see the Cavaliers star take a stand in honor of Eric Garner.

Sports and politics are always going to intersect, as the players who play the games are mostly socially conscious and have something to say about what is going on in their country. At the moment, police brutality is a hot topic and sports figures are starting to speak out. LeBron James is one of those players, as he’s looking to follow Derrick Rose’s lead and support Eric Garner in wake of his murder at the hands of the NYPD.

If you’re not up on the story, Eric Garner was an unarmed black man who was killed by an NYPD officer who choked him to death after confronting him. It’s not just the murder of Garner that has people up in arms, it’s the video of him screaming that he couldn’t breath that has people enraged.

LeBron James and the Cavaliers are in Brooklyn on Monday night to take on the Nets which is a perfect opportunity for LeBron to protest. He plans on doing it too, telling the NY Daily News that he loved Derrick Rose’s “I Can’t Breathe” shirt from Saturday night and wants to get one.

"“It was spectacular,” James said about Rose’s shirt, which he wore in pre-game warmups Saturday night. “I loved it. I’m looking for one.”"

Derrick Rose, a player who is notoriously shy and quiet, took a loud stand on Saturday night while wearing his ‘I Can’t Breathe’ shirt in support of Eric Garner.

LeBron James has spoken out on issues like this before, as he rallied the Miami Heat to wear hoodies in support of murdered teenager Trayvon Martin and seems to be using his public platform again in a powerful way.
