The NFC playoff race is incredibly tight, and it looks like a deserving team will get left out once again. As of right now, the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers are the No. 1 and No. 2 seed. The Packers have yet to play and do so on Monday night football when they take on the Atlanta Falcons.
The Falcons are currently the fourth seed and hosting an NFC playoff game as the NFC South Champions. They’re just barely ahead of the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers and things could get really interesting if they were to lose.
The Philadelphia Eagles get the NFC East crown, leaving the 9-4 Dallas Cowboys fighting for a wild card spot. The Eagles get the tie-breaker because they beat the Cowboys head-to-head, but they meet again next weekend.
That leaves the two wild card spots. The first goes to the Seattle Seahawks, who like the Cowboys are 9-4. They get the nod over the Cowboys based on win percentage in conference games. The Seahawks also own a tie breaker over the Detroit Lions, who are also 9-4. The Seahawks own a tie-breaker for best win percentage in common games over the Lions.
The Lions have the tie-breaker over the Cowboys on best win percentage in conference games. That leaves the 9-4 Dallas Cowboys out of the playoffs as it stands right now.
