The Oklahoma Sooners had a disappointing season that went from National Championship contender to unranked team playing in a midlevel bowl. As the bowl announcements continued to trickle out, the Oklahoma Sooners announced they’d be accepting a bid to the Russell Athletic Bowl in late December.

The Sooners will face off against an ACC team that hasn’t been named yet. It is widely expected to be the Clemson Tigers though, who finished No. 17 in the College Football Playoff Rankings.
Russell Athletic Bowl is Clemson vs. Oklahoma. i.e. the Brent Venables Bowl.

It should create an interesting match up between two teams who last squared off in the late 80s. That game was the 89 Citrus Bowl, when Switzer was still head coach of the Sooners.
While Oklahoma will be disappointed with the way their season went, they at least get the opportunity to end it on a high note if they can defeat a quality opponent in Clemson.
