A look at who will be beginning their journey toward the national championship with a date in the famed Sugar Bowl this January.
The Sugar Bowl is traditionally one of the top-tier games of the college football bowl season, but this year it carries much more significance. Under the new College Football Playoff format, the Sugar Bowl this season will be the site of the semifinal game between the No. 4 and the No. 1 team in the rankings.
This year’s Sugar Bowl will take place on Jan. 1 and it will be the second of the playoff games contested on New Year’s Day. Kickoff time for the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana inside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is slated for an 8:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
With the release of the rankings on Sunday, the two teams that will be battling for the right to play for the national championship will be the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Ohio State Buckeyes. It will be the champion of the SEC against the champion of the Big Ten.
But more importantly, it’s Nick Saban vs Urban Meyer.
