Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin is the only NHL player to have 20 goals for the season

During Saturday night’s upset of the Montreal Canadiens, Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin fired two more pucks to the back of the net — scoring goals 19 and 20 for the 2014-2015 season.

This puts Seguin as the highest goal scorer in the entire NHL this year; with Vladamir Tarasenko and Rick Nash trailing him with seventeen goals apiece, Seguin is miles ahead of the competition.

His lead could be skewed by the mumps, as Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry lost his grip on first due to extended time out with the virus. There’s no doubt, though — Tyler Seguin is skating circles around almost everyone else on the ice right now.

The Dallas Stars are undoubtedly grateful that they took a chance on the 22-year old last summer. He was sent to Texas with fellow center Rich Peverley as a part of the blockbuster trade that shipped Reilly Smith and Loui Eriksson to Boston; with growing concerns about his attitude and off-ice behavior, Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli had quickly lost his patience with the former second overall draft pick.

Looking at the current season, though, it’s clear that Seguin’s wild nights have little impact on the way he plays the game — and with the highest goal-scorer on the Boston Bruins only having eight tallies on the season (Brad Marchand pulled ahead on the team with two goals of his own Saturday night), it’s looking like the Original Six team that fell out of favor with Tyler Seguin might have reacted too quickly.
