Tennessee will be keeping Butch Jones around for a little while.

The University of Tennessee announced on Monday that head football coach Butch Jones will be sticking around for a little bit, as the two sides have come to an agreement on a two-year contract extension. The new deal takes Jones through the 2020 season.

Throughout the course of the past few weeks, as the extension has been whispered about, it was rumored that Jones could be a candidate for the ope spot at the University of Michigan, a spot that was left open with the firing of Brady Hoke.

This new deal raises Jones’ salary from $2.9 million per year to $3.6 million. There was also a raise for his assistants included in the extension, but those terms were not disclosed.

Despite the whispers that he could be considering leaving Knoxville, Jones noted that he wants to see through with all the special things he has going on with the program at the moment.

"“There are special things going on here,” Jones said. “I hope everyone realizes that. And we have concrete evidence surrounding those statements.”"

Since arriving with the Volunteers last season, the program has shown vast improvement. Jones is lighting it up on the recruiting trail, and the team finished 6-6 this season, which was good enough to earn them a bid on Sunday to the TaxSlayer.com Bowl where they will face the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Overall at Tennessee through two seasons, Jones has a record of 11-13.
