Fantasy Basketball: What to do with Al Horford
By Dave Fuqua
‘Tis the season. Yes the wonderful holiday season of Christmas is upon us. ‘Tis the season of giving, ’tis the season of receiving, ’tis the season of having guests in your homes and elongated visits from people you only see once a year. Maybe then it is a good season to take a look around the NBA and find that inevitable player who right now is performing like cousin Eddie in one of the all time great Christmas movies, Christmas Vacation.

Who is it that the average owner in your league is looking to unload at an all time low price. Right now I believe there is one who stands out like a sore thumb as a guy you need to go get right now. No I am serious go get him right NOW!! What are you waiting for??? Seriously why are you still here reading this… GO GET AL HORFORD!
You saw him in the picture above so what are you waiting for? Open a new tab get to your team and float an offer out there and bring home a guy I believe can be a second half fantasy MVP for your team. He might even bring home that elusive faux title for your fantasy team. It is okay, I will still be here when you get back.
OK, now that you have taken care of that, let’s take a look at a few more guys you might be able to bring to your team at a big discount. Now be careful when you buy low, and make sure your team will be able to sustain the short term hit that is going to come by trading for an under-performing NBA star. I also don’t suggest doing this with a record of .500 or worse. You need to make sure your team is in line for a playoff bid and that you can at least maintain a .500 or better record before our targets get things going like we know they can.

Al Horford, Atlanta Hawks: For the reasons mostly mentioned above I would go and get me some Al Horford. He is bound it get it together and turn this season around.
Dwight Howard, Houston Rockets: Right now, Howard is sitting out with a bum knee and news just broke that he will be out a while. Those are words that no fantasy owner ever wants to hear. For savvy owners those can be key words that you are looking for. For H2H owners in great shape with 2 losses on the year or less, D12 could be just the target you are looking to add to bring you home on the stretch run for a title. I also ask you to consider your league’s settings before making this investment as D12’s strengths and weaknesses are well documented. He is not nearly as valuable in leagues that count free throw percentage.
Kenneth Faried, Denver Nuggets: Things seem to be at an all time low for the Manimal. He just hit the wire in one of my long term standard sized leagues as of the writing of this article, and yours truly is faced with the unenviable task of deciding if i want to follow my own advice and add Faried to my undefeated team that has a sizable lead in record and points scored. Sometimes patience for a fantasy team is easier preached than practiced. If the Manimal follows his blueprint from last season, he will savage through and finish this season stronger than ever.
