Greg Olsen: Cam Newton As Good As Anyone When In Control
By Evan Massey
Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen believes Cam Newton is as good as any NFL quarterback when he’s in control of his game.
The Carolina Panthers are coming off of a huge 41-10 win on the road against their division rival New Orleans Saints yesterday, and Cam Newton came through with a huge performance. He has been struggling throughout the majority of the season after losing all of his top receivers from last year, but he has done everything he can this season to lead his team.

While he has been through a lot of ups and downs this year, he has still found ways to come through and win some football games for his team. They have lost a good amount as well, but tight end Greg Olsen had some glowing words for his quarterback following yesterday’s win.
“When he’s in control like that, he’s as good as there is,” Olsen said.
Newton has definitely shown that he can be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, especially last season in their playoff run. He was able to have major success with his arm and legs, but that is hard to do again without legitimate targets to pass to. The Panthers messed up allowing all of his favorite receivers to walk away or cutting them, and they didn’t bring in nearly enough talent to replace them.
There is no question that they will have a much better receiving corps for him moving forward next year. Newton is still their franchise quarterback and they know exactly why he has been struggling this season.
When everything is said and done, Newton deserves a lot of patience due to the team that he is working alongside. He has some talent in both Olsen and Kelvin Benjamin, but the running back is practically non-existent and there isn’t much talent outside of Benjamin at the wide receiver position. That will need to be addressed this offseason, and assuming they bring in a couple more players he’ll be back playing at a high level next year.
