Never rule out the Yankees. We should know better by now, but here is yet another reminder when it comes to the big ticket free agents each winter: never rule out the Yankees.
New York was never really in on free agent starting pitcher Jon Lester, right? Lester is down to his final two choices anyway, right?
To channel Lee Corso…not so fast my friends.
Please regard the following rumor from Jerry Crasnick:
This throws a wrench in the report we heard earlier today that Lester has his choice down between the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants. If that report turns out to be true, that means Lester is ready to turn the page and switch to the National League for a long-term deal.

Are you telling me the Yankees wouldn’t be the team to swoop in and offer Jon Lester a seventh year?
Stay tuned, as they say.
