New York Knicks President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson says that the 4-18 team has a “loser’s mentality.”

The New York Knicks have been a disaster to start out the 2014-15 NBA season.

New York has lost 18 of its first 22 games and opponents are outscoring them by 5.3 points per game.

Team President of Basketball Operations Phil Jackson recently spoke about his struggling squad and the 11-time champion did not hold back, even going as far as to say the team has a “loser’s mentality.”

From ESPN:

"“It’s about a loser’s mentality,” Jackson said on Monday. “It’s not about the skill or the talent level.”(…)“Obviously, we’re disappointed,” said Jackson, who has won a record 11 NBA championships as a head coach. “… I think guys understand what we’re trying to do. Hopefully, they’re getting to be more compliant. There’s some resistance to discipline and order and culture change and things like that. I will call it a crucible for what we’re going through here. The process, maybe the heat, is going to refine some of the stuff so that we come out and be a pretty good team after all is said and done.”"

No one can dispute what Jackson is saying. The Knicks have plenty of talent and should not be among the worst teams in the NBA. Yet, after a disappointing 37-win year last season, things have only gotten worse for New York and here they are.

The Knicks have now lost eight consecutive games and there’s little reason to believe this team can turn it around unless its players begin to heed Jackson’s words and buy into the Knicks’ system and simply play better team basketball.

New York’s first chance to break its losing streak comes Tuesday against the New Orleans Pelicans.
