The Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in shipping away Dion Waiters for a big man, such as Kosta Koufos, according to a new report.

It’s no secret that the Cleveland Cavaliers could use another big man. The biggest concern for David Blatt’s squad is, and will continue to be without a trade, rim protection.

So its should be of little surprise that the Cavs are pursuing the idea of trading for a big, such as Kosta Koufos of the Memphis Grizzlies, according to ESPN’s Marc Stein.

"Far more worrisome to the Cavs than their uneven 11-7 start is the lack of a proven presence at the rim to help stiffen their defense for the long term. That’s why Cleveland, sources say, has been inquiring with theMemphis Grizzlies about the availability of reserve centerKosta Koufos among their various trade pursuits."

But, who would the Cavs give up to get their desired center?

Well, Dion Waiters, of course. The polarizing shooting guard has been a fixture in trade rumors since the Cavs added Kevin Love and LeBron James this summer and remains the team’s most tradeable asset (among the assets that they would be willing to trade).

"Sources say that the Cavs are well aware landing a quality big man likely depends on selling on potential trade partners to take back polarizing shooting guardDion Waiters. Cleveland rates Waiters’ talent highly, but sources maintain that the Cavs have let a number of teams know they are prepared to surrender him if they can acquire a difference-making center in return."

Getting rid of Waiters for a strong rim-protector would be a wise move for the Cavs. Waiters isn’t giving them much these days (8.1 PPG, 36.7 FG%) and isn’t exactly viewed as a great locker room presence.

The Cavs need to become a better defensive team if they are to make an NBA Finals run and improved rim protection is crucial towards making that happen
