Tennessee Titans QB Zach Mettenberger’s Season Is Over
By Keith Myers
Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger is out for the remainder of the NFL season with a shoulder injury.
The Titans quarterback injured his shoulder a week ago in Tennessee’s loss to the Texans. Despite missing practice during the week, Mettenberger returned to play on Sunday against the Giants. He re-injured his shoulder late in the game. This time it appears to be more serious.
According to a report from Aaron Wilson of Raven’s insider, rookie Zach Mettenberger’s season is over due to a sprained shoulder.
Mettenberger is almost certain to be placed on injured reserve at some point this week. With him out, the Titans will likely turn to former first-round pick Jake Locker, who was benched earlier this season. Locker has been mostly effective when on the field, but has been unable to stay healthy throughout his career.
The Titans, made the move to Mettenberger once the team decided to give up on Locker in their long-term plans. Locker is a free agent after this season, and the Titans do not believe he is worth the large financial investment that is typically required to keep a quarterback.
Tennessee was trying to use this season to determine if Mettenberger could be a potential franchise quarterback. They will now go into the offseason with that question left unanswered. This means that the Titans could very well decide to pick a quarterback in the first round of the draft if one of the top passers is available when they make their selection.
