Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob apologized to Mark Jackson on Sunday after ripping his former coach.

On Wednesday, Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob explained why he fired Mark Jackson this summer to InsideBayArea.com, suggesting that Jackson couldn’t get along with other team employees and “didn’t know X’s and O’s,” among other things.

However, Lacob is now apologizing for going after Jackson in such a manner.

From the Bay Area News Group:

"“I have a tremendous amount of respect for Mark Jackson and what he accomplished as our head coach,” Lacob said. “He did a terrific job. I’ve said that many times over the last several months and in recent days, including at this week’s event. I was asked to draw comparisons earlier this week between building businesses in the tech world and the sports world, and unfortunately, I used some poor judgment. That’s my mistake. I did attempt to reach out to Mark on Friday, and I certainly apologize for my comments and any unintended harm. I know that Mark will succeed again in this business.”"

The apology was the right move for Lacob to make. Despite Jackson’s obvious shortcomings as a coach, there was no reason for Lacob to revisit the past and bring them up to the world.

Also, it was clear that the Warriors’ best player, Stephen Curry, was not pleased with his owner for the original comments. Curry called them a “distraction.”

Hopefully this controversy will die down soon for Curry and the rest of the Warriors’ sake. Golden State currently has the best record in the NBA and needs to remain focused on basketball, not its former coach, if its going to keep this up.
