No 5 – Rob Ryan: Defensive coordinator, New Orleans Saints

Odd as it may seem to have Ryan on this list, the fact is that he’s already drawing attention from several teams.

Were it not for an absolutely awful defensive season in New Orelans this season, he might be at the top of the list, but the inability of the Saints to stop anyone from scoring has lowered Ryan’s stock a bit.

Ryan won a pair of Super Bowl rings as the linebackers coach for the New England Patriots from 2000-2003. He has since served as defensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and the Saints.

The thing that sets Ryan apart from other candidates is his charisma. He can help bring some fire to teams that are otherwise lifeless, and can become the coaching face of a franchise for teams that have been lulled to sleep by less than creative coaches.

Although a certain New York job will likely be available, there is no way that even the Jets would move from one brother to another. However, the Atlanta Falcons and Oakland Raiders are two teams with absolutely abysmal defenses that might benefit from Ryan’s presence on the sideline.
