Corey Perry Out With Injury From Ballard Hip Check
The Anaheim Ducks will continue sans-Corey Perry this season, as he’s out this time with an sprained knee
You’d be hard pressed to find very many NHL fans shedding a tear over news of another Corey Perry misfortune. I might be a fan club of one; not many can get past his instigator antics and overly dramatic theatrics to appreciate that he’s the league’s highest-scoring pest.

Whether you’re devastated by the news or secretly giggling at the image of him being flipped like a pancake, though, the end result is still the same — for the second time already this season, the Anaheim Ducks have placed Perry on injured reserve.
Ryan Getzlaf’s pesky linemate has already spent a good chunk of the season sidelined with what seems to be 2014’s first documented case of the mumps in the NHL; he’s already relinquished his leading-goals title to Tyler Seguin as he struggled to get healthy and then regain his stride.
During the team’s game against the Minnesota Wild on Friday, though, he was knocked out of the lineup once again; this time for an injury sustained through a questionable hip check by the Wild’s Keith Ballard.
We’ll post the video below in case you haven’t seen it yet, but it’s a pretty tough call; no one seems to be able to agree on how clean the hit exactly is. Ducks head coach Bruce Boudreau complained that Ballard is notorious for hitting low — but clocking in at only 5-foot-11 to Perry’s 6-foot-3, Ballard is one of the smaller players in the league to begin with.
Perry has already missed at least one game with the injury; according t0 NBC’s Pro Hockey Talk, it’s anticipated he could miss up to ten more and completely sit out the rest of December. For a player who routinely dresses in most (if not all) of Anaheim’s game, the team is feeling the strain in his absence.
Ballard was not penalized for the hit.
