As of now, Devin Funchess probably doesn’t care too much about who becomes the next head coach at Michigan.
The Wolverines announced on the team’s Twitter account that the junior would forego his final year of eligibility and declare for the NFL draft, leaving new Michigan coach (fill in name that isn’t Jim Harbaugh) without its leading receiver over the past two seasons.

Funchess projects as a potential late first round pick according to CBSSports.com’s recent Big Board Rankings. The 6’5, 230-pounder is currently ranked as the sixth-best receiver available and the 32nd best player overall.
“I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates for their support,” Funchess said in a statement. “It’s always been a dream of mine to play in the NFL, and I am prepared to take the next step in my journey.”
Originally recruited as a tight end, Funchess enjoyed a breakout season in 2013, where he caught 49 passes for 748 yards and six touchdowns. Then-coach Brady Hoke moved Funchess to wide receiver last spring in order to maximize Funchess’ potential, yet injuries and inconsistencies at quarterback curtailed his 2014 campaign. He finished the season with 62 catches for 743 yards and five touchdowns.
Rumors of Funchess turning pro heated up last week when a report showed that he was strongly considering signing with Roc Nation sports agency, which is owned by rap mogul Jay-Z.
