Ace starting pitcher Max Scherzer is seeking a huge deal in MLB free agency, reportedly a deal up in the stratosphere of the $200 million deal signed by Clayton Kershaw.
So, who wants to sign Max Scherzer to a seven year deal for over $200 million? Anybody?
Max Scherzer is seeking a guarantee of more than $200 million, which only one pitcher (Clayton Kershaw) has achieved in MLB history.

How about the New York Yankees? Eh, guys? What do you say? This is kind of your thing, after all. No? OK, moving on.

What about the Detroit Tigers? Max Scherzer is your guy, after all? Nothing like some familiarity to push a deal over the top, especially given your motivation to retain your ace. Besides, no team is in “win now” mode more than you guys. What’s that? No way, not after the Miguel Cabrera and Justin Verlander contracts? Alright then…
Let’s see, the Boston Red Sox? What if you guys miss on Jon Lester? Just an extra $50 million to get Scherzer? Nope. Hmm….the Houston Astros have money? Oy. Might be time to move to the National League…
The San Francisco Giants sure have some dough to spend after losing Pablo Sandoval and missing out on the aforementioned Lester. So…
Starting pitching remains priority for Giants. Asked about Scherzer and Shields, Evans said "anybody is a consideration."

Getting warmer. Say, speaking of the National League West.

Don’t forget: Zack Greinke can opt out of his deal after the 2015 season. If Andrew Friedman wants to be proactive and take advantage of his bottomless pile of money, the Dodgers could be real contenders for a starting pitcher like Max Scherzer…especially if it’s just a question of money.
If Scherzer’s deal approaches the dollars he is hoping for, watch out for those National League West teams, that one big bully in particular.
