Cam Newton Named NFC Offensive Player Of The Week
By Cory Buck
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week after tallying four total touchdowns in the team’s 41-10 win over the New Orleans Saints.
It was the best of weeks, it was the worst of weeks for Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. Just two days removed from an unceremonious beatdown of division rival New Orleans Saints, Newton was involved in a car crash that injured his back and could keep him out for the team’s Week 15 game. A silver lining appeared around that news though, as Newton has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his role in the team’s 41-10 Week 14 victory.

Cam Newton tallied 226 yards passing and three touchdowns with no interceptions along with 83 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in the win. It was arguably his best game of the season as the Panthers dominated the hapless Saints to re-insert themselves in the race for the dubious honor of winning the NFC South crown.
Of course, if the Panthers are to keep up in that race, they may have to do so without Newton, at least for a week. Newton fractured a pair of transverse processes in his back, which is the same injury suffered by Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo.
If Romo’s struggles with that pain are any indication, Newton could be a game-time decision for the final three games of this NFL season. And if Week 14 is any indication, losing Newton could prove to be quite a loss for the Panthers.
