Fantasy Basketball: Chris Paul Tops My Top 10 Point Guards List

facebooktwitterreddit

What’s up fellow fantasy ballers! I am going to attempt to release my top 10 lists at each position over the coming week, with the goal of releasing each list over the next seven days. I realize that each of us may play different formats, but I mostly play and enjoy H2H points. However I do enjoy a good cats league. I never really seemed to enjoy the longevity and lack of excitement that the roto leagues bring, but this article isn’t the place for that heated debate. This is to start the debate of who are the top 10 producers, regardless of format, at each position. So let’s get started with my favorite position in hoops and roll out the top 10 point guards!

More from Fantasy Basketball

10. Jeff Teague, Atlanta Hawks: Teague is one of the perenially underrated PGs in the NBA, yet he always manages to produce and keep his assist to turnover rate at a respectable level for you roto and negative cats guys out there. Teague isn’t flashy, but he gets the job done.

9. Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics: I realize this may not be a popular opinion among many of you, but I have always had a disdain for the way Rondo plays basketball. Another concern for me, although he has done a better job then some guys, (cough cough Derrick Rose) is Rondo’s ability to stay on the court.  Rondo is a good player, but I guess I have always had more things I do not like about him than things I do like. He also is not what you would call a scorer, as he seems to seriously lack the ability to sometimes even hit a layup, much less a fifteen foot jumper.

8. Michael Carter-Williams, Philadelphia 76ers: MCW is really beginning to heat up and take over the hapless 76ers team. I am not completely sold on the talent of this kid, but there is no question his usage rate on this team will be off the charts as long as he can stay on the court. I am not sure I like him here long term on this list, but he could wind up even higher for this season. Look for MCW to produce elite stats as long as he is healthy.

7. Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls: I add Rose here strictly because of the stand he took recently wearing the “I can’t breathe” shirt… Okay, I am just kidding, I add Rose here based on the fact that he is a former MVP, who was also a MVP for many fantasy leagues. Rose has shown flashes of the athletic ability that makes him the incredible player that he was before his recent bout with multiple knee injuries. I believe that as he gets past all these injuries that he will only find himself rocketing up this list.

6. Kyle Lowry, Toronto Raptors: Lowry has ignited this Raptors team and propelled himself to a level of play, that has for some at least, led him to some minor consideration for this year’s MVP. Lowry is quietly averaging 20 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. Pretty solid numbers for a guy who is working with a very young core and a team lacking a superstar. Lowry does not seem to care about any of those kinds of allegations, and just goes out and wins. He might even deserve to be higher than sixth on my list.

5. Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers: Lillard, only in his third NBA season, finds himself at #5 on this list. Lillard is becoming the prototypical NBA point guard. He can do a little bit of everything and does it at a very high level. He is a fun player to watch, and to own, and can deliver some very seriously big numbers that can compete with the top 3 on this list any given night.

4. John Wall, Washington Wizards: Wall has really taken over this franchise, and helped them to forget the name Agent Zero. Some of you reading this now may be thinking, agent who? That only serves to prove my point. Wall is leading this team at a very high level and is raising the level of play of all those around him. He is becoming the leader that the Wizards want to see, and he is earning the respect of the league in the process. This is a guy with the talent to be at the head of this list in the future.

3. Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City Thunder: You just can not say enough when talking about Westy. He is one of the most fun players to watch, and always seems to make some eyes pop in his post game apparel. Westbrook is quickly becoming the measure of style  in this group, but we are not rating their fashion sense. We are rating their ability to lead your team to fantasy gold. For me, Westy is up there, but he is the third choice of PGs I would want leading my fantasy squad.

2. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors: This was a very tough list to come up with, but I think I just have to give the second chair to a guy who, in some folks’ opinions, may already deserve the first. Curry has finally put a gang of early career ankle injuries behind him, and is in the midst of becoming somewhat of an ironman. There is absolutely nothing to dislike about Curry’s game, and he has quickly became must-see TV any time the Warriors are on.

1. Chris Paul, Los Angeles Clippers: Well, maybe I am just old school. I don’t know. But for whatever reason, no matter how hard I tried, I just could not unseat Chris (or Cliff) Paul from the top of the list of fantasy point guards to own. I realize Paul carries a moderate amount of risk for injury, but who at the top of this list does not? The best part about owning CP3 is if you have a deep enough league to roster, you can add Jordan Farmar as a handcuff of sorts. I normally do not recommend this for fantasy basketball, but in the case of owning CP3, I think it is an excellent championship winning idea!

So there you have it. The top 10 fantasy basketball PGs! What do you think? Let us know by sounding off in the comments below!
