Semyon Varlamov Injured Again, To Miss A Couple Weeks
By Cory Buck
Colorado Avalanche goaltender Semyon Varlamov will miss a couple weeks with a groin injury.
As if this season could get any worse for the Colorado Avalanche, who began this season with sky-high expectations. Now it appears the goaltender who spurred last season’s magical run to the top of the Central Division will be out with injury yet again. Avalanche coach Patrick Roy announced that an MRI found a ‘groin problem’ in starter Semyon Varlamov which will keep him out of game action for ‘a couple weeks’.

“That’s all I can say for now,” Roy said, per the Denver Post.
The Avalanche have been one of the biggest disappointments in the NHL this season after a strong coaching debut for Roy in the previous season. They sit dead last in the Central Division and as the injuries mount up, this year is looking more and more like a lost season for the young, talented squad that thought it had the missing pieces needed to advance in the playoffs when it acquired veterans Jarome Iginla and Daniel Briere in the offseason.
Instead, the Avalanche are riding the pine in the Western Conference. Now the team must turn to youngster Calvin Pickard in the hopes of finding a spark. Pickard has answered the bell, but the rest of the team continues to lag behind.
While Pickard played solid in net on Tuesday night, the team dropped a 3-0 home decision to the Nashville Predators to fall further behind in their division.
