Brandon McCarthy agreed to a four-year deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday night as the dominoes continued to fall at the MLB Winter Meetings.

When Brandon McCarthy was traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks to the New York Yankees in the middle of the 2014 season, he was the owner of a 3-10 win-loss record. That did not tell the whole story as McCarthy pitched well overall on a poor Arizona team, but for those who count wins and losses those numbers were obviously not impressive.

To essentially prove that he had been an effective starting pitcher all year, McCarthy shined while pitching for the Yankees. In 14 starts he went 7-5 with a 2.89 ERA while bumping up his K/9 to 8.2. Pitching that well anywhere on his way to free agency would have gotten McCarthy a nice deal, but doing so under the bright lights for the Yankees was even better.

On Wednesday night, the Dodgers agreed to a four-year deal with McCarthy as one of a number of moves as Andrew Friedman reshapes the roster in Los Angeles.

For his career, McCarthy has a 4.09 ERA. Over the course of nine seasons, he has now pitched for the Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers, Oakland Athletics, Diamondbacks, Yankees, and now the Dodgers. Before he signed this deal, there was no shortage of interest in McCarthy as one of the best secondary free agent starting pitchers available.

Once Jon Lester signed with the Cubs, you knew things would get moving. As of now, it appears that teams are scrambling to sign quality guys who could come at a more reasonable price. With McCarthy headed to the Dodgers, there is one less option available.
