Marcus Mariota Of Oregon Takes Davey O’Brien Award As Top QB

Marcus Mariota of Oregon added to his haul of awards on Thursday night at the College Football Awards show as he was named the Davey O’Brien Award winner as the nation’s best quarterback.

Marcus Mariota won the Walter Camp Award as player of the year earlier on Thursday and at the College Football Awards show Thursday night, he also took the Davey O’Brien Award as the nation’s top quarterback.

The Oregon quarterback beat out Trevone Boykin of TCU and Dak Prescott of Mississippi State after accounting for a Pac-12 record with 53 total touchdowns.

On the season, Mariota has completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 3,783 yards and 38 touchdowns with just two interceptions and has also run for 669 yards and 14 TDs.

Mariota is also a finalist for the Heisman Trophy and will lead the Ducks into the Rose Bowl against last year’s O’Brien winner, Jameis Winston, and Florida State in one of the two College Football Playoff semifinal games on Jan. 1.

Oregon is 12-1, winning the Pac-12 championship game, and was seeded No. 2 by the CFP committee.

A junior from Honolulu, Mariota has thrown for 10,115 yards and 101 touchdowns with just 12 interceptions in his 39 collegiate games in three seasons.

Mariota also has 28 rushing touchdowns in his career while also hauling in two touchdown catches.

This year, he leads the nation with 10.1 yards per pass attempt and an efficiency rating of 186.1.
