Maryland kicker Brad Craddock topped reigning winner Roberto Aguayo of Florida State and won the Lou Groza Award as the nation’s top kicker.
In something of a surprise, Maryland kicker Brad Craddock unseated Florida State’s Roberto Aguayo, winning the Lou Groza Award as the top placekicker in college football.
Craddock. A junior from Adelaide, Australia, is the first Terrapin to win the award.

He led the nation, hitting 94.7 percent of his field goal attempts—18-of-19.
Aguayo, a sophomore from Mascotte, Fla., was looking to join former Florida State kicker Sebastian Janikowski as the only players to win the Groza in consecutive years. He was 25-for-27 on field goals this season.
Craddock also made all 41 of his extra-point attempts and was 2-for-3 from 50 yards or more, nailing a 57-yarder in a loss to Ohio State on Oct. 4.
His season highlight was a 43-yarder in the final minute to beat Penn State 20-19 on Nov. 1.
He is the third Big Ten kicker to win the award, joining Nate Kaeding of Iowa in 2002 and Mike Nugent of Ohio State in 2004.
Maryland will play Stanford in the Foster Farms Bowl in Santa Clara, Calif., on Dec. 30.
The Lou Groza Award is presented annually to the top placekicker in college football, presented by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission. It is named after Ohio State and Cleveland Browns legend Lou Groza, a Hall of Fame offensive tackle and kicker.
